Board members: Are you ready to Stand For Your Mission?
Many nonprofits are considering how they can become engaged with advocacy or how they should step up their advocacy efforts. This session is designed to help board members and executives understand the value of board engagement in advocacy, the rules of the road, and how small steps can lead to big results.
We will also help you understand how to work effectively with policy-makers and government representatives and provide some simple rules for having successful board discussions around a policy agenda and for delivering your message so that it will be heard.
The learning objectives for this session are:
- Know Why: Why advocacy is a tool for advancing your mission
- Know the Rules: Understanding the definition of lobbying vs. advocacy and the IRS’s guidelines for nonprofits
- Know How: How to be an effective board advocate
