Financial statements can be intimidating, yet they contain essential information. More importantly, they’re used by external decision-makers who hold your organization’s financial well-being in their hands. This workshop teaches financial statement speed-reading tricks and outlines some of the indicators that board members sometimes overlook when exercising their fiduciary duties. We will talk about what the numbers mean, how they can be improved, and how to spot the issues that catch the attention of external financial statement users.

By the end of the session participants will:

  • Understand key nonprofit accounting terminology
  • Understand and interpret basic nonprofit financial statements and Form 990
  • Be empowered to ask questions and identify “red flags” in your organization’s financial statements and Form 990
