What happens when you bring a storyteller and nonprofit accountant together to address nonprofit financial literacy? Finance Unlocked for Nonprofits (FUN) represents a departure from existing finance trainings. It expands what staff and board members know and can do relates nonprofit finance through BINGO cards, video shorts featuring a Jet City Improv actor, and supporting informational kits.

Through this interactive, hands-on workshop, we will work through the why, what, who, and how of nonprofit finance. We will dig deeper into two key reports – Balance Sheets and Income Statements – and then cover what board members need to know about IRS Form 990, the intersection of finance and fundraising, and oversight. Healthy finance practice can be habit-forming when people are working within their comfort zones, so we will discuss how to get your organization there. And no finance training is complete without a hearty game of BINGO!

About the Presenters

Nancy BaconNancy Bacon, Washington Nonprofits
Nancy is a teacher and instructional designer who has served in the nonprofit roles of executive director, founding program director, board member, and volunteer since 1996. She led the teams creating Finance Unlocked, Boards in Gear, Let’s Go Legal, and Strategic Planning in Nonprofits and regularly teaches on nonprofits topics in communities across Washington.

Erin WelchErin Welch, Jacobson Jarvis & Co.
Consulting and Audit Partner Erin Welch has been with Jacobson Jarvis since October 2000 and was promoted to partner in January 2010. Erin has managed and performed audits exclusively for not-for-profit organizations since joining Jacobson Jarvis. At the same time, she has worked as a consultant to clients, helping them to develop internal control programs and other processes, conducting financial health assessments, reviewing and designing charts of accounts, assisting clients with board communications, and conducting board trainings.
