Liquor, Cannabis, Gambling… and Your Fundraising Event

How to have fun while staying legal
Your mission matters. You hold events to raise money and build your community. Liquor and raffles are often a big part of these events. How can you have fun while staying legal?
Join us as we walk through what you need to know about liquor, cannabis, and gambling at your event. We will cover the seven categories of information related to alcohol at events:
- WHAT type of license you need
- WHOSE license covers what part of your event
- WHERE alcohol can come from
- WHO can serve the alcohol
- WHEN alcohol can appear at your event
- HOW you account for and communicate about alcohol
- PUBLIC SAFETY rules
In addition, we’ll talk very briefly about cannabis (it doesn’t take long), as well as rules related to raffles and other popular forms of gambling at events.
You will leave this workshop able to:
— Determine what types of licenses you need for your next event
— Explain to someone on your board or staff where you can legally get liquor for your event
— Describe to an enforcement officer how you have accounted for alcohol within the ticket price
— Name the three elements that define gambling (and know if your game meets the legal definition)
This workshop is based on Washington Nonprofits’ new toolkit, complete with videos and event planner.
“I’ve sat through A LOT of trainings over the years from the Washington state Liquor, Cannabis, & Gambling Control Board. But your Toolkit is the most comprehensive and easy-to-understand resource that I have seen to date. Well done!”
– Matt Edmonds, Clark County Food Bank
