Interview with Jacob Dehne, CPA, Tax Manager

In this interview, we’re catching up with Tax Manager Jacob Dehne about his experience working with nonprofits, the importance of a healthy work-life balance, and the inclusive small firm feel of Jacobson Jarvis.


How long have you worked for Jacobson Jarvis?

I joined JJCo in August of 2018.

What made you want to join the team at JJCo? 

The people. Both our team and our clients make going to work every day enjoyable and meaningful. You know you’re making an impact working with passionate people in our community.

What experiences in your background helped prepare you to work with nonprofits in this setting? 

I’ve been affiliated with nonprofit organizations ever since I was a kid, and now I’m able to connect my interests in accounting and tax with similar nonprofit organizations that had such a positive impact on my life.

Could you describe your position and what is your favorite part of what you do? 

I enjoy building and maintaining relationships with our clients, helping their organizations and passions succeed is the most rewarding part of my job. I enjoy helping our team pursue their career and personal goals and ensure they feel well supported. I have had great mentors throughout my career, and I want to be able to be that mentor for our staff.

What are your favorite types of nonprofit organizations to work with? 

Golf and social clubs, youth and adult sports leagues, and humane societies.

What do you think is so special about Jacobson Jarvis and their work culture?

We strive for a healthy work life balance. While this can ebb and flow depending on the time of year, this is a critical piece of our culture. The company has grown rapidly since I came on, but the small firm feel has remained the same.

What are three words you’d use to describe JJCo? 

Commitment, competency, and culture.

About Jacob Dehne, CPA:

Jacob joined Jacobson Jarvis in August of 2018 after moving from Bismarck, North Dakota. He started his accounting career working with small to medium sized businesses before focusing on nonprofit organizations. He has six plus years of public accounting experience. Outside of work, Jacob enjoys spending time with his wife, Ellie, and their two Australian Shepherds, Marlow and Moose. His hobbies include playing golf, hockey, and traveling.
